Citroen electric cars Discover the electric Citroen range and compare new and leasing deals
Citroen is a company that’s more famous for its quirky design than for its electric cars, but did you know that the French company currently offers no fewer than five of them? In this guide, we take a brief look at this impressively broad range of Citroen electric cars, so that we can help you find the right one for you.
Current electric Citroen models
From tiny city runabout to huge people carrier, Citroen offers electric cars of all different shapes and sizes.
Citroen e-C4
It’s fair to say that the e-C4’s looks will probably be a love-or-hate affair, but if you happen to fall on the right side of that line, then there’s plenty to love about the car. It’s surprisingly roomy for a small car, it’s good value for money compared with rivals, and the soft suspension means it has a really comfortable ride, albeit at the expense of sharp handling. The entry-level 50kWh version has a range of around 220 miles, but there's also a 54kWh version which ups the range to 260 miles.
Citroen e-C4 X
If the e-C4’s looks are ‘challenging’, then the e-C4 X might just have you rubbing your eyes in bewilderment, as it combines the C4’s busy front end with an unconventional saloon-style boot. That boot is bigger than in the regular C4’s – 510 litres versus 380 litres – but the access is nowhere near as good due to the small opening. Otherwise, the e-C4 X predictably has most of the same attributes as its sibling, with pretty much identical figures for power and range.
Citroen e-Berlingo
The Berlingo has been popular for years due to the massive amount of space and practicality it offers relative to the amount of space it takes up on the road, and that’s still true with the latest electric version, the e-Berlingo, which can be had with either five-or seven seats. However rooming the cabin, though, it’s also rather plasticky due to the car’s commercial vehicle roots, and the official range is also rather limited at around 170 miles.
Citroen e-SpaceTourer
Much of what we’ve just said about the e-Berlingo also applies to the e-Spacetourer: it’s based on a van, the cabin is a bit utilitarian, and the driving range is rather limited (just 137 miles). However, the space and practicality delivered by the e-Spacetourer is truly supersized, with a huge boot, seating for up to nine and bags of space for everyone.
Citroen Ami
In a list of Citroen electric cars, the Ami is something of an outlier, because it’s not actually a car at all: it’s a quadricycle. That goes a long way towards explaining why it only has 8hp and a top speed of just 28mph, which means you couldn’t (and probably shouldn’t) use it anywhere outside the city limits. Just as well when the range is just 46 miles. Still as a means of getting yourself and mate around the city, it’s a fun solution.
