Is the Citroen e-Berlingo a good car?
If cars were bought purely on logical reasons alone, the Citroen e-Berlingo MPV would be topping the sales charts. It may lack the sharp styling of an SUV, but the van-based e-Berlingo is streets ahead when it comes to practicality, value and interior space. If a Swiss Army Knife and an AA battery could have a baby, it would be the e-Berlingo.
Van-based used to be short-hand for uncomplicated and unrefined, but the Citroen isn't completely basic transport. Fitted with a 134bhp electric motor, it provides silent, effortless acceleration and up to 174 miles of range between charges. Eco, Normal and Power modes allow you to either eke out every last mile from the battery or take full advantage of the punchy electric motor. It's an identical system to that found in the almost identical Peugeot e-Rifter and Vauxhall Combo Life Electric.
Charging the 50kWh battery pack using a 100kW rapid charger will get you from 0-80% in just 30 minutes. Doing the same thing at home will take around 7-8 hours with a 7.4kW domestic wallbox.

Just like with the internal combustion models, you can have your e-Berlingo in five-seater M or seven-seater XL guise. Both can be had in base Feel or higher spec Flair XTR trims. All models get an 8.0-inch infotainment touch screen, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Safety systems include Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Safety Brake, Driver Attention Alert and Cruise Control.
Stepping up to the Flair XTR trim gets you larger 17-inch ‘Spin’ style alloy wheels, automatic climate control, folding door mirrors, tinted side windows and different exterior trim. Five-seat models offer 775-litres of boot space, while the seven-seater XL models have 209-litres. The third-row seats can be removed if you need more luggage space. Fold the whole lot down and you get a massive 4,000-litres of cargo space.
