When can I buy a new Porsche Macan EV?
The new Porsche Macan EV will be fully revealed on January 25 2024. The design has already been teased in this partially-covered photos, and the interior has been shown off in full.
As for price, you can expect this new electric car to fetch a strong premium over the current Macan. As it stands, the most expensive version will cost you £74,000, so expect this electric car to fetch closer to £90,000.
New Porsche Macan EV design
Porsche has teased the exterior design of the new Macan EV a few times in prototype form, but these new design sketches give you the best look yet at this car’s styling.
You can tell there are some influences from the Porsche Taycan saloon, such as the sleek rectangular headlights and pointy nose. It looks as though the lower air intake can open and close to cool the battery as needed, improving the car’s aerodynamics.
This new Macan has a more coupe-esque sloping roofline than the outgoing car, making it look more rakish and sporty. There are also some chunky side skirts, as well as big alloy wheels which are similar to the ones found on the Taycan.
Looking at the rear, the Taycan theme continues with the full-width light bar. You get a gloss black lower bumper to keep things looking interesting, but there are no fake vents or tailpipes in sight.
New Porsche Macan EV interior revealed
This is the first time we’ve seen the interior of the new Porsche Macan EV, and it has a similar layout to the recently-revealed Porsche Panamera, meaning it hasn’t copied the Tesla Model Y with a buttonless design.
You get a high centre console to separate you from your passenger, and Porsche has resisted the urge to hide all the climate controls in a touchscreen, with this car getting physical buttons.
In front of the driver is a 12.3-inch digital dial pack delivering all of your vital driving information, and this is the first Porsche model to be offered with an optional augmented reality head-up display. It can project things like directional arrows on the road in front of you, and it has the appearance of an 87.0-inch display.
As for the infotainment, you get a 10.9-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as an optional 10.9-inch passenger display. The person riding shotgun can watch films on the move as well thanks to a special film which makes it invisible from the driver’s seat.
New Porsche Macan EV batteries and charging
The new Porsche Macan EV will use the same 100kWh battery as the upcoming Audi A6 e-tron. While exact figures haven’t been announced yet, Porsche has confirmed that all versions will have over 310 miles of range.
That 310-mile figure is likely to apply to the 612hp dual-motor car (more on that in a bit). While it’s not confirmed, a more efficient version based on the Audi A6 e-tron’s 476hp setup could e on the cards with closer to 400 miles of range.
The new Macan EV will also be capable of 270kW DC fast charging, and it’ll go from 10-80% in under 22 minutes.
New Porsche Macan EV motors and performance
Porsche has also spilled the beans on some of the Macan EV’s performance specs. Dual-motor models will have up to 612hp and over 1,000Nm of torque, much more than the Audi A6 e-tron will get.
That car has 476hp and 800Nm of torque giving it a claimed sub-4.0 second 0-60mph time. With almost 130hp more than the Audi, the Porsche could sneak below the 3.0-second mark. Lower-spec versions of the Macan could also be offered with the 476hp setup from the A6 e-tron, however this is yet to be confirmed.
New Porsche Macan EV suspension and chassis
The main reason you buy a Porsche over something like an Audi or Mercedes is the driving experience, they’re known for being great driver’s cars. To make sure the new Macan EV lives up to this reputation, it’s fitted with plenty of clever suspension components.
See how the current Porsche Macan GTS gets on in a drag race…
You get steel springs as standard, however air suspension is an optional extra. Tick that box and you get Porsche’s Active Suspension Management system as standard. It can react to the road surface, as well as to acceleration and steering input to make sure the car stays flat and composed through the bends.
The rear motor has also been mounted further back than on some other EVs, meaning more of the cars weight it over the rear axle to keep the car balanced. This clever packaging has also allowed Porsche to fit rear-wheel steering.
The back wheels can turn by up to five degrees in the opposite direction to the front at speeds of up to 50mph, making the car feel more agile on a twisty road and more manoeuvrable in town. Once you venture above 50mph then the rear wheels move in the same direction as the front for added stability on the motorway.
