New Audi Q5 spotted: ever-popular SUV coming this year
January 23, 2024 by Jamie Edkins
Car changing is a big deal
This is your best look yet and the all-new Audi Q5, with the next-generation SUV uncovering part of its face during development testing. Read on for all you need to know.
- New Audi Q5 spotted testing
- Revamped exterior design
- Could share Q6 e-tron’s interior tech
- Similar engine range to current car expected
- May go on sale later this year
An all-new version of the Audi Q5 is due out this year, and prototypes of this BMW X3 alternative have been spotted out and about by Carwow’s spy photographers.
Not much is known about exact specs, but the Q5 will still use petrol and hybrid engines because an all-electric version would tread on the toes of the Q4 e-tron.
New Audi Q5 design
These camouflaged spy shots are your best look yet at the new Audi Q5’s design, as the grille is almost completely uncovered. You can tell that it’s not going to change radically over the current car, that’s not Audi’s style after all, but it is going to look more modern.
Starting up front, the grille retains a similar shape to the current Q5’s. In fact, it actually looks slightly smaller which is unusual in the modern age of bigger is better. You can also just about see the headlights poking out of the wrap, and they’re much slimmer and less angular than before.
Not much has changed down the side, with the Q5 retaining the same silhouette as before. While it hasn’t been spotted just yet, a new version of the sporty-looking Sportback model is likely.
Changes to the rear are slightly more obvious, with a very similar taillight design to the Audi Q4 e-tron. That swirly wrap is also likely to be hiding a full-width light bar across the tailgate. You can ignore the protruding single tailpipe, that’ll just be for testing purposes.
New Audi Q5 interior and infotainment
There aren’t any images of the new Audi Q5’s interior just yet, however you can expect to see a very similar design to the recently-revealed Audi Q6 e-tron’s cabin. That car will set the benchmark for Audi interiors going forward.
This means you could see the same wraparound infotainment system comprising an 11.9-inch digital driver’s display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Q5 could make use of the clever augmented-reality head-up display from the Q6 as well.
New Audi Q5 engines
There’s no word on engines for the new Audi Q5 just yet, but it’s likely to use a similar range of petrol units to the current car. Audi has committed to being an EV-only brand by 2033, so it’s unlikely to be developing any all-new engine options before then.

The brand has also said that it would stop offering diesel engines after 2025, so this new SUV is unlikely to be offered with an oil burner. Expect to see a couple of 2.0-litre petrol engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid offering.
When can I buy the new Audi Q5?
The new Audi Q5 is due to be revealed later this year, possibly by the summer, but you’ll probably have to wait until early 2025 to get hold of one in the UK.
There’s no word on pricing just yet, however it’s likely to fetch a premium over the current car. A figure of around £50,000 seems feasible.
