Car changing is a big deal
Volkswagen has a strong focus on its electric ID cars at the moment, and over the next few years you can expect to see more of these models debut. Here’s a look ahead at what you can expect to see from VW between now and 2025.
New Volkswagen models coming in 2024
New Volkswagen Passat
This is the all-new, and last ever, Volkswagen Passat. The brand will be killing off its executive model after this generation, and it’s now only available as a practical estate. It’s even bigger than the old car, resulting in cavernous interior space.
There’s also an all-new plug-in hybrid engine, using a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired to an electric motor. It can manage 62 miles on electric power alone, almost double the range of the outgoing car. There are also a couple of pure petrol options, and those who are still after a diesel are also catered to.
The new Passat will be available to order in Germany in February next year, so expect it to hit our shores in early spring.
New Volkswagen Tiguan
Alongside the new Passat, Volkswagen has also revealed the all-new Tiguan SUV. The Kia Sportage alternative gets revamped styling, as well as new interior technology.
It’s available with the same 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid system as the new Passat as well, and it can manage the same 62 miles on electric power alone. There’s also an all-new infotainment system inside, with up to a 15.0-inch screen available. That’s a decent upgrade on the current car, which is only available with a 9.0-inch screen.
The new Tiguan will go on sale at the same time as the Passat, so expect to start seeing them on our roads in the spring next year.
New Volkswagen California
Fans of a VW camper will be pleased to see the return of the California. It’s based on the Volkswagen Multivan, and it’ll get plenty of new technology to make your camping trips that bit more comfortable.
There will be a removable touchscreen in the back to control the climate and other functions around the van, and an all-electric version based on the Volkswagen ID Buzz is also on the cards.
For now though, you’ll have to make do with the 1.4-litre plug-in hybrid engine you’ll find in the standard Multivan, meaning you should be able to do around 30 miles on electric power alone.
New Volkswagen ID Buzz long-wheelbase
Those who love the styling of the Volkswagen ID Buzz but need seven seats will be delighted to welcome the long-wheelbase version to the range. It retains all the quirky design cues of the standard car, but with an added dollop of practicality.
The main highlight is the addition of a third row of seats in the long-wheelbase version, and you’ll be able to get either a six-seater version with two captains chairs in the middle, or as a seven seater with a rear bench seat.
This larger version of the Buzz also comes with a more powerful motor. You now get a 286hp motor powering the rear wheels, and a 339hp dual-motor GTX version will also be available at a later date.
New Volkswagen ID7
The new Volkswagen ID7 has been revealed. It’s VW’s first electric saloon, and it provides an alternative to the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2. Design-wise, it has a pointy front end with some sleek headlights, a swoopy coupe shape and a neat light bar at the rear.
Under the skin you have a 77kWh battery as standard with up to 382 miles of range. An 86kWh battery will be made available at a later date with up to 435 miles of range. Power comes courtesy of a new electric motor driving the rear wheels with 286hp.
The cabin of the new ID.7 is a bit different to the ID.4’s. You get a huge 15.0-inch infotainment screen and a neatly integrated digital driver’s display. The fabrics are also made using plenty of recycled materials.
New Volkswagen ID7 GTX
Hot on the heel of the ID7, the new Volkswagen ID7 GTX has been teased. This is a high-performance, dual-motor version of the electric saloon, and it could have as much as 340hp.
Only a handful of design details have been revealed so far, and it looks like the GTX will get a more aggressive bodykit, as well as larger alloy wheels than the standard car.
You can also expect to see some unique interior trinkets, and this new performance electric car will go on sale in September.
New Volkswagen ID3 GTX
The facelifted VW ID3 is set to be joined by a sporty GTX model, and this electric hot hatch has been spotted during testing. It may look pretty standard, however there are a few sporty trinkets on show.
The lower grille at the front seems to be slightly deeper and more aggressive-looking, although the rest of the car seems unchanged for now. Nothing has been confirmed in terms of motors just yet, however it could share the same dual-motor setup from the Volkswagen ID4 GTX with 299hp.
You’ll have to wait until the end of the year at least to find out more about the ID3 GTX, and sales aren’t likely to start until early next year.
New Volkswagen Golf R
The ever-popular Volkswagen Golf is expected to get a facelift at the end of this year, and the flagship R version has been spotted on the Nurburgring. Styling changes look pretty minimal, but there are a few new features.
These spy shots show a car which is wearing next-to-no camouflage, so you can tell that the exterior design will stay mostly the same. The eagle-eyed may spot the slightly slimmer headlights and updated bumper, but it seems like that’s your lot.
Interior-wise expect a similarly subtle makeover. It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to assume that the new Golf will be available with the same 15.0-inch infotainment system as the new Tiguan and Passat, although this hasn’t been confirmed. Expect to see some new interior trim options as well.
New Volkswagen ID7 Shooting Brake
A new estate version of the Volkswagen ID7 is also on the cards, and it’s been spotted testing. It has a coupe-like shape to it, a bit like the Volkswagen Arteon Shooting Brake.
You can expect this alternative to the forthcoming BMW i5 Touring to have the same range of motors and batteries as the standard ID7, and there may also be a hot GTX version of this car. The ID7 Shooting Brake will be revealed in early 2024.
New Volkswagen models coming in 2025
New Volkswagen ID. 2all
This is the Volkswagen ID. 2all concept, and it’s a new electric concept which will cost less than £22,000 when it goes on sale in 2025.
It’s around the same size as a Golf and has up to 280 miles of range, as well as a 226hp electric motor powering the front wheels which can send it from 0-60mph in under 7.0-seconds. Inside there is an all-new infotainment system, as well as a massive boot which is around 90 litres bigger than the one in the Golf.
Design-wise you have slim LED headlights up front with a light bar across the bonnet, 20-inch alloy wheels and a pretty large roof spoiler at the back.
New Volkswagen ID. GTI
In addition to the ID. 2all, Volkswagen has revealed a sporty GTI version. The ID. GTI has a pretty similar design to the standard car, however it has a more sporty-looking bodykit with snazzy new alloy wheels.
While unconfirmed, this electric hot hatch could have around 320hp. This would put it in line with today’s Golf R, which should make for some rapid performance.
You can expect this car to make a debut in 2025, just after the ID.2 all. Price-wise, expect a tag of around £25,000.
