Car changing is a big deal
Toyota will be expanding its EV offering next year with the introduction of this: the Urban SUV Concept. It’s likely to be called the bZ2X when it goes into production, read on for all you need to know.
- New Toyota Urban SUV Concept revealed
- Entry-level electric SUV likely to be called the bZ2X
- Styling cues from the C-HR
- Two battery sizes to be offered
- Available with front or all-wheel drive
- On sale next year
This is the new Toyota Urban SUV Concept, and it’s an all-electric SUV which will hit the showrooms next year. The Urban SUV Concept is a bit of a mouthful, so it’s likely to be called the bZ2X.
This alternative to the BMW iX1 and Volvo C40 will be offered with two battery options, as well as with either front or all-wheel drive.
New Toyota Urban SUV Concept design
Toyota was clearly very proud of the new C-HR, because most cars which have followed share similar styling cues. The Urban SUV Concept doesn’t have quite the same dramatic design as the C-HR, but it certainly looks modern enough to stand out.
The slim headlights have a similar swoopy shape to the C-HR’s, and they blend nicely into the full-width light bar. There’s no fake grille in sight here either, although there is a massive black plastic panel in the lower bumper which hides the vents to cool the batteries.
You could draw similarities between this and the Volvo EX30 from the side profile. Both cars have a stubby front end with a tall bonnet line, although the Toyota has a more sloped roofline.
Looking at those rear lights, if you look carefully you may see the letters ‘bZ’ in the LEDs, suggesting that this may use the bZ2X name. The funky-looking spoiler looks similar to the bZ4X’s as well.
New Toyota Urban SUV Concept motors and batteries
There are no official battery specifications for the Urban SUV Concept just yet, however Toyota has confirmed that it’ll be available with two battery sizes to suit multiple budgets. The larger bZ4X uses a 71kWh battery, something which could carry over to higher-spec versions of the Urban SUV Concept.
This small SUV will also be available with a choice of either a single motor powering the front wheels, or with dual-motors and all-wheel-drive.
When can I buy a new Toyota Urban SUV?
The new Toyota Urban SUV Concept, likely to be named the bZ2X when it comes to market, will be revealed in full next year. Being a new entry-level EV model for the brand, you can expect prices to start from around £30,000, putting it in line with the Volvo EX30.
