Car changing is a big deal
2023 was a pretty busy year for Mercedes. We had the all-new E-Class, the new CLE coupe and a raft of facelifts across the range. The German brand isn’t showing any signs of slowing down either, read on for everything to expect over the coming years.
Top new Mercedes models from 2023
New Mercedes CLE
The new Mercedes CLE is here, and it replaces the C-Class and E-Class Coupe, and a cabriolet version is on the way as well. This luxury coupe provides an alternative to the BMW 4 Series and Audi A5.
Design-wise, the new CLE retains a similar side profile to the outgoing Mercedes C-Class Coupe, with a sporty sloping roofline and sleek LED headlights up front. The cabin is also lifted from the new C-Class saloon.
Under the bonnet, you have a choice of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines with up to 258hp, as well as a 3.0-litre engine with 381hp. You’ll have to wait a few months for a sporty AMG version of the CLE.
New Mercedes-AMG GLC
Those waiting for a new sporty SUV from Mercedes, the wait is over. The new AMG GLC 43 and 63 S are here, the latter uses the same hybrid setup as the Mercedes-AMG C63.
The 63 S uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, the same one you’ll find in the Mercedes-AMG A45 S, paired with an electric motor to make 680hp and 1,020Nm of torque. The AMG GLC 43 uses the same engine minus the hybrid setup, giving it 421hp and 500Nm of torque.
Under the skin you also have lowered stiffened suspension, as well as active roll stabilisation. You won’t mistake this for a normal GLC either thanks to the more aggressive-looking bodykit and big alloy wheels.
New Mercedes-AMG GLC Coupe
Fancy an AMG GLC but want some swoopy styling? Well good news because the AMG GLC Coupe has been revealed.
It’s available with exactly the same engines as the SUV, meaning you have a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder in the 43 version and a plug-in hybrid system in the 63. Power remains the same as well, so the 43 has 421hp and the 63 gets 680hp.
The exterior has been given all the same sporty upgrades as the SUV, as has the interior. You also get lowered suspension, rear-wheel-steering and active roll stabilisation.
New Mercedes E-Class
The new Mercedes E-Class was revealed in April, and it gets an all-new design and plenty of new technology.
It retains the three-box saloon shape of the outgoing car, however the front end has a much wider grille and some new LED headlights. The flush-fitting door handles are from the larger Mercedes S-Class, and there are some slim LED tail lights at the rear.
The interior of the new E-Class was revealed a few weeks prior to the rest of the car. The dominant feature here is the new “Superscreen” infotainment system. It looks like a slightly toned-down version of the Hyperscreen you get in the Mercedes EQS, and it has apps like Zoom and Angry Birds built in.
New Mercedes E-Class Estate
Hot on the heels of the new E-Class, the E-Class Estate has also been revealed. This practical wagon gets similar styling at the front to the saloon, and it has quite a sporty sloping roofline for an estate.
This new E-Class Estate is 28mm longer than the outgoing car, resulting in more rear legroom and a bigger boot. The dashboard is exactly the same as the saloon’s, meaning you can get the same massive ‘Superscreen’ infotainment system.
Engine-wise, you have a choice of petrol or diesel units, as well as a plug-in hybrid which can do up to 70 miles on electric power alone. A sporty AMG E43 is also on the way.
New Maybach EQS SUV
The new Maybach EQS SUV takes the electric SUV to the next level in the luxury stakes. On the outside, you get plenty of chrome detailing to separate it from the normal EQS SUV, as well as some 22-inch mirror-polished alloy wheels.
It’s powered by two electric motors putting out 658hp and 950Nm of torque. That’s 114hp and 92Nm more than the standard car. Maybach hasn’t quoted an exact range yet, however it has said that the EQS SUV should be able to do 373 miles on a full charge. That’s around eight miles less than the EQS SUV 580.
If you’re planning on being chauffeured around, you’ll want to go for the First Class rear seat package. This gets you two comfy reclining lounge chairs in the back, as well as a HMDI port for your 12.0-inch screen. There’s also a fridge for your champagne between the seats, and silver plated flutes to drink it out of.
New Mercedes GLC Coupe
Following the launch of the new Mercedes GLC earlier this year, the new GLC Coupe has now been revealed. It gets a sporty sloping roofline, like the BMW X6, however the front end looks pretty much the same as the SUV.
The cabin also remains unchanged from the standard GLC, meaning you have a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and an 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The GLC Coupe is offered with the same range of petrol and diesel engines as the standard car, and there’s a plug-in hybrid as well. It can do around 6 miles more than the SUV, which is likely to be thanks to its more aerodynamic shape.
New Mercedes-AMG GT
The new Mercedes-AMG GT was revealed towards the end of last year, and it’s retained very similar styling to the outgoing car. It also shares it’s cabin with the Mercedes SL convertible, and it has a pair of rear seats unlike the old car.
Under the bonnet, there’s no hybrid turbo four-pot like you find in the Mercedes-AMG C63 S. The AMG GT retains a whopping 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with 476hp and 700Nm of tourque.
The new Mercedes AMG GT is available to order now, with prices starting from an eye-watering £164,765. That’s around £5,000 more than a Porsche 911 Turbo.
New Mercedes models coming in 2024
New Mercedes EQG
An all-electric version of the iconic Mercedes G-Glass SUV is in the works, and it’s been spotted testing for the first time. This new electric car retains the same boxy shape as the current G-Class, aside from the tweaked lower bumper and blanked-off grille.
The concept EQG has four electric motors and a two-speed gearbox to make it as capable off-road as the current car, and it can turn on the spot like a tank to make it more manoeuvrable. It’s not clear whether this system will make it to the production car.
A road-going version of the Mercedes EQG concept is due to be revealed in late 2024, with sales starting in early 2025. If you’re considering buying one, you’ll probably have to part with more than £100,000 to park one on your drive.
New Mercedes models coming in 2025
New Mercedes Concept CLA Class
This is the new Mercedes Concept CLA Class, and it’s a new entry-level electric saloon. It retains the coupe-esque shape of the current CLA, however it’s been thoroughly modernised.
There are no details around what’s powering this car just yet, however Mercedes says it’ll have up to 466 miles of range. There’s also an all-new infotainment system, as well as a funky-looking interior design.
You can expect to see this car make its debut towards the end of 2024, with sales starting in early 2025.
New Mercedes Vision One-Eleven
The Mercedes Vision One Eleven may just be a concept car, but it’s a look ahead to what you can expect from Mercedes electric cars in the future. The slinky coupe is designed to pay homage to the C 111 concept of the 1970s, and it certainly looks futuristic.
While there are no official performance or range figures for the Vision One Eleven, it does have a new type of electric motor which the brand plans to use in future EVs. It’s called an Axial Flux motor, and essentially it uses a different internal structure to make it smaller and lighter, while still putting out the same power.
This concept probably won’t go on sale in its current form, however expect to see some of this technology appear on new Mercedes electric cars in the future.
