  • New Lexus GX revealed
  • Off-roader based on the Toyota Land Cruiser
  • Boxy exterior design
  • New 3.5-litre V6 engine
  • Simple interior design
  • On sale in 2024

The new Lexus GX has been revealed, and this alternative to the Mercedes G-Class and Land Rover Defender gets a new engine and all-new technology.

It’s going on sale in Eastern Europe in early 2024, however it’s unlikely to come to the UK.

New Lexus GX design

It’s clear just from looking at the new Lexus GX that it’s an off-road-focussed model. It’s a very boxy design, not too dissimilar to the shape of the Mercedes G Wagon.

It doesn’t have the same Spindle grille design as other Lexus models, opting for a more blocky matte-black design instead. There are also some slim LED headlights up front, as well as a chunky metal skid plate.

You get 18-inch alloy wheels as standard wrapped in off-road tyres. The squared-off side profile isn’t too dissimilar to the Toyota Land Cruiser, which isn’t a surprise as the two cars are very similar under the skin.

The rear has a pretty simple design with a full-width light bar across the tailgate and another silver skid plate in the lower bumper.

New Lexus GX engine and chassis

The new Lexus GX is fitted with a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

See what Mat makes of the new Toyota Land Cruiser…

It puts out 354hp and 650Nm of torque, 58hp more than the 4.0-litre V8 in the old GX. This added grunt means this new model can tow 3.5 tons, the same as a Land Rover Defender and 500kg more than the Toyota Land Cruiser.

New Lexus GX interior and infotainment

The angular theme with the new Lexus GX continues on the inside. The dashboard has the appearance of being designed using only a ruler, and there are plenty of physical buttons for the major controls.

There is also a 14.0-inch touchscreen in the centre of the dashboard with Apple CarPlay and Android auto, similar to the system found in the Lexus RX electric car.

Will I be able to buy a new Lexus GX?

Like the look of the new Lexus GX? Well don’t reach for your wallets just yet. This car is only being launched in Eastern Europe for now, with sales starting in early 2024.

Price-wise, you can expect this car to fetch a bit more than the Toyota Land Cruiser. A starting price of around £75,000 is likely.
