It’s almost been a decade now since Lamborghini brought us the Huracan, and its replacement has been spotted testing during development.
This new supercar will almost certainly be using a plug-in hybrid system when it debuts in 2024, and carwow has now brought you some exclusive renders to give a glimpse of what this new car could look like.
New Lamborghini Huracan replacement design
The Lamborghini Huaracan’s replacement has been snapped by spy photographers a few times now wearing some pretty heavy camouflage.
The carwow team have taken these images and used their expertise to peel back that wrap, giving you a proper look at what this car might look like. Check out these exclusive renders.
You’ll immediately recognise this as a Lamborghini thanks to the iconic wedge shape, and there are plenty of design touches inspired by the new Revuelto flagship, but the front end design is different to any other Lamborghini we’ve seen before.
It might be covered in the usual array of creases and angles, but the super thin headlights are almost akin to the Ferrari SF90’s. Those massive hexagonal daytime running lights in the grille are pretty weird as well, looking almost like rally spot lamps.
The new car looks pretty similar to the Huracan from the side thanks to that aforementioned wedge shape, but the tall air intake behind the door, also seen in the camouflaged spy shots, looks more like the one found on the old Lamborghini Gallardo.
The rear end will be instantly recognisable to fans of the Revuelto, because it’s been heavily inspired by that car. That massive central exhaust is mounted in the same place as its larger sibling, just as you can see on the prototype. The thin brake lights and giant rear diffuser are similar to the Revuelto’s as well.
New Lamborghini Huracan replacement engine
Lamborghini might be about to kill off the iconic naturally-aspirated V10 engine which has featured in Huracans and Gallardos since 2003. The brand’s Chief Technical Officer Rouven Mohr has said that it will have “less than 12, but more than six cylinders”.
In the current era of downsizing, this means Lambo could be getting ready to swap the 5.2-litre V10 for a twin-turbocharged V8 instead, but it isn’t likely to be the same as the Urus SUV’s.
Instead, it might use a version of the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 from Lamborghini’s Le Mans hypercar. This engine puts out 680hp with the help of an electric motor, however it’s restricted to this power figure due to racing regulations, something which won’t apply on the road.
This new car will also be a plug-in hybrid, and Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann has confirmed that all new PHEVs from the brand will have a dual-clutch gearbox. This is important because the Revuelto’s dual-clutch gearbox has been designed around a 150hp electric motor, and there’s a strong chance that the Huracan successor will share these parts.
So, combine the 680hp V8 engine with a 150hp electric motor and you could have an 800hp hybrid supercar. That’s more power than any old Aventador made, however it’s slightly less than the 830hp Ferrari 296 GTB.
New Lamborghini Huracan replacement chassis
Adding a hybrid system to any car inevitably adds weight, and weight is the enemy of performance and handling. To offset this, the new Lamborghini Huracan replacement could go rear-wheel-drive only.
While this isn’t confirmed, it would offset the added mass of the hybrid battery, while also making sure it doesn’t step on the Revuelto’s toes. Lamborghini also seems to like rear-wheel-drive for its smaller supercars, just look at the Huracan Technica.
This was the final swan song for the Huracan, a sort of ‘greatest hits’ version combining all the best bits of the Huracan into one flashy send off, and it was rear-wheel-drive. Only time will tell if the replacement follows in this car’s footsteps though.
When will the new Lamborghini Huracan replacement go on sale?
The new Lamborghini Huracan replacement is due to make its debut in late 2024, just after the new Urus plug-in hybrid.
As for price, don’t expect any change out of a quarter of a million pounds. That would put it roughly in line with the Ferrari 296 GTB, and it’s almost half the price of a V12 Revuelto.
