October 19, 2023 by Jamie Edkins
Car changing is a big deal
The BMW X3 has been around for a while now, and an all-new version is on the way. Prototypes of this SUV have been spotted out and about testing, read on for all we know so far.
- New BMW X3 spotted
- All-new design for the SUV
- Interior design likely to be similar to other BMWs
- New BMW X3 M also on the way
- One sale next year
This is the new BMW X3. It’ll be the fourth iteration of the Audi Q3 alternative, and it looks like it’s getting a styling overhaul.
Not much is known about the technical details just yet, however you can expect to see a similar interior treatment to cars like the BMW 5 Series and X5.
New BMW X3 design
The new BMW X3 looks like it’s going to get a pretty drastic styling overhaul over the current car, with a few design cues taken from other new models in the range.
You can just about see the headlights poking through the wrap, and they have sleeker and more swept-back design compared to the outgoing car. BMW’s continuing the trend of massive kidney grilles, although they seem to work better on large SUVs.
There are some flush-fitting door handles down the side, and this new X3 has a similar side profile to the existing X3. The sporty roof spoiler suggests that this is the M Sport model, and you can expect this X3 to also spawn a new BMW X4 coupe.
There’s not much to see at the rear for now as it’s so well-covered. The tail lights appear to have a similar design to the current car, albeit slightly slimmer. There are no fake exhaust surrounds to be seen here, although a new X3 M has also been spotted before with quad pipes.
New BMW X3 interior and infotainment
There are no images of the new BMW X3’s interior just yet, however you can expect it to follow a similar design path to cars like the new 5 Series.
If this is the case, you’ll have a huge, curved display with twin screens, as well as the usual raft of personalisation options.
New BMW X3 engines
While there’s no official word on engine options for the new BMW X3, don’t expect to see any drastic changes over the current lineup. It’s likely that you’ll be able to get a similar range of 2-litre petrol and diesel units, as well as a plug-in hybrid.

Spy photographers have also spotted a potential BMW X3 M replacement out and about, given away by this prototype’s quad tailpipes and aggressive bodykit. Don’t expect to see any electrification here, the new X3 M is expected to retain its 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine.
The current X3 M has 510hp, just like the BMW M3. This new version may eke out a few more ponies though, potentially making use of the 550hp engine from the BMW M3 CS.
When can I buy a new BMW X3?
You can expect the new BMW X3 to make its debut in the first half of 2024, with sales starting later in the year. Expect to see a slight price hike over the current car’s £47,000 figure as well.
