Car changing is a big deal
This is the new Cupra Tavascan. It’s the second pure EV from the company, and it’ll go on sale in 2024. Read on for all you need to know.
- New Cupra Tavascan revealed
- Electric coupe SUV to sit above the Born
- Up to 340hp
- 0-60mph in as little as 5.6 seconds
- Up to 341 miles of range
- Radical new interior design
The new Cupra Tavascan has been revealed. It’s Cupra’s second electric car after the Born, and it’s an alternative to cars such as the Volkswagen ID.5.
You can have it with either rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive, and the Tavascan has up to 341 miles of range.
New Cupra Tavascan design
The new Cupra Tavascan may share parts with the Volkswagen ID.5, but it looks radically different to that car. If the VW is a bockwurst, the Tavascan is more like a spicy chorizo.
Up front, you have a similar pointy headlight design to the Cupra Born. The lights themselves are matrix LED units, and you get some funky-looking daytime running lights as well. The deep front bumper and massive air vents add to the sporty appearance.
Alloy wheel sizes start at 19-inches, but 20 and 21-inch alloys are also available. The Tavascan is a coupe SUV, a bit like the Volkswagen ID.5, so you get a sporty sloping roofline. The flush fitting door handles also look as though they’re lifted straight from the ID.5.
At the back you have a funky-looking LED light bar, a bit like you get on the Born, as well as an illuminated Cupra badge. The sporting credentials are further enhanced by the deep rear bumpers with a diffuser-esque design.
New Cupra Tavascan motors and performance
There are two power options for the Cupra Tavascan: a single motor driving the rear wheels or a dual-motor setup with all-wheel-drive.
The former has 286hp, which is the same as the recently-revealed Volkswagen ID.7, while the dual-motor car has 340hp. That’s 41hp more than the mechanically-similar Skoda Enyaq vRS.

But what does this mean for performance? Well Cupra hasn’t quoted a 0-60mph time for the single-motor car, however the dual-motor version will complete the sprint in 5.6 seconds. That’s 0.7 of a second faster than the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX.
New Cupra Tavascan batteries and range
The Cupra Tavascan has just one battery option, and it’s the same 77kWh pack as you get in the Cupra Born and Volkswagen ID.4.

The less powerful rear-wheel-drive version has a claimed range of 341 miles, while the added weight and power of the dual-motor variant sees this drop to 321 miles.
Both cars come with 135kW DC fast charging, meaning you can top up from 10-80% in under half an hour.
New Cupra Tavascan interior and infotainment
The new Cupra Tavascan shares a 15.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the Volkswagen ID.5, but that’s about it. The rest of the interior design is much more outlandish than the VW’s.
As is usually the case with Cupra, theres plenty of copper detailing in the cabin. You get a bronze strip across the dashboard, and it swoops up at the end making it look a bit like a bulls horns.
There are also some funky-looking air vents, as well as a silver ‘spine’ in the centre console which blends neatly into the dashboard.
